When my eldest daughter was 13 or 14, she read a book called Cry of the Icemark by Stuart Hill. She said it is one of the best books she’s ever read. It looks a bit like Lord of the Rings (but not as long!) with a heroine.
Another popular book with teens in the UK is “Noughts and Crosses” by Malorie Blackman, the first of an exciting trilogy about racism and young love, with a sci-fi theme.
This post was from Maxine
The title is spelled Naughts and Crosses in the US. When it was released as a trade paperback in the US the title was changed to Black and White. The sequel is called Knife Edge.

I just finshed the book Life As I Knew It , a YA novel by Randi Hacker. The blurb says “Sixteen-year-old Angelina’s life forever changes when her father has a stoke and she and her mother try to cope with their varied emotions.” They live in a small Virginia (the state, not the city) community that has an eccentric cafe and many of the people in the community have more than one job – the master plumber is also an “adjunct professor of political science at Green Mountain Community College” (p. 33). The story is fast paced, funny and sad. I really liked it.

A lot of people signed up for the Teen Summer Reading program and a few completed cards have already been turn in. To keep you going I want to mention that the Big Books for Teens List distributed in the reading packet is a fairly short list. Check out the longer list on the library website, or use the link on this blog. We are adding to the list as we add big books to the library collection.
The If You Like Harry Potter booklist has been updated. You may find some authors on the list that are new to you. Check out the Harry Potter: from the beginning to the end bookletters also. Not only will you find information about the books, but also links to the movie previews.
Do you like Manga and Graphic Novels? Check out Sarah’s blog on what is new at the library and for suggestions on what to read. Have you read some of the books on her blog? I know someone must be reading them because I have keep waiting for my turn… I like the Kindaichi Case Files.
Keep reading! Thanks for stopping by and please, post something!
