All the broken pieces – Ann E. Burg

Posted by Laura on August 6, 2009

I don’t think that I like poetry, but I just love a novel in verse.

All the broken pieces by Ann E. Burg, is an historical novel in verse about a Vietnamese American boy two years after he had been air lifted out of Vietnam. This is the story of his life in his adopted home in America,  in school, on the ball field, and his memories of his life in Vietnam.

It is also a story about the reactions of the people in the town, who lost brothers, sons or fathers in the war.  It is the story of soldiers who have come back from the war but haven’t adjusted to life back home, or to how they are treated by people back home.

This is a great, fast read that left me with a lot to think about.  I would recommend this to readers who liked Out of the dust by Karen Hesse.
